The Editor-In-Chief (EIC) curates all written content at Word and Colour, connecting writers with art. Primarily, the EIC selects writers, edits their work, and posts the final stories to the site. For this reason, the EIC’s connections to writing communities are vital, as well as their ability to follow a clear schedule, and have a desire to showcase the work of new writers.
While Word and Colour is currently a collective of volunteers united under the mandate of confronting oppression with words inspired by colour, the position may become funded, pending certain grant applications. Because the position is currently unpaid, we are mainly looking for candidates who could both use the professional experience as an EIC and who we all feel would do an excellent job. The position may be completed by correspondence.
In brief, the EIC will:
- contact new writers with art, liaising with our curator;
- follow a consistent publication schedule–currently at two pieces of poetry or flash fiction per week (a schedule decided by the EIC);
- ensure that the work follows the journal mandate;
- edit the work as needed,
- and post the final work to the site.
The position will begin in October, 2017. To apply, contact firstname.lastname@example.org by September 15th with a resume and a brief explanation of your related experience, as well as an answer to the following question: does writing matter?
